Back in the day (last year??), the only affordable and effective choices for non-latex condoms were the Durex Avanti and Trojan Supra condoms, both made out of Polyurethane. The material was stiff and was prone to breakage, so only people who absolutely HAD to use a non-latex condom due to latex sensitivity or allergic reactions for themselves or their partners ever bought them.
Things are now quite different. A new material was developed near the end of 2009 that will revolutionize condoms and, perhaps, even push latex out of the picture entirely!
That material is called "Polyisoprene", and unlike the polyurethane condoms, condoms made of polyisoprene are soft and supple with a very nice and "natural" feeling to them. And the one advantage of the older polyurethane material over latex condoms — which is that they conveyed body warmth excellently, while latex feels cold and clammy — is retained with the new material, making condoms made with Polyisoprene a great choice whether you need latex-free condoms or not. They feel WARM!!! So much nicer than latex!
In fact, if you are "playing the field" dating and are carrying condoms "just in case" an encounter leads to a nice sexual escapade, the best condom to be carrying just HAS to be the polyisoprene ones.
If you are carrying polyisoprene condoms, you see, you won't have to worry about being with a person who is latex-intolerent or latex-sensitive (and many people don't even know they have that problem - they just know that they had an annoying irritation arise that lasted for days after having sex...)
These are the condoms to be carrying with you to be prepared for "getting lucky!"
The first line we saw at our stores was the Lifestyles "SKYN - Closest Thing to Wearing Nothing". These are excellent condoms which heralded the upcoming popularity of the polyisoprene material as a no-brainer. All that suppleness and warmth! Just great condoms!
Next up: Durex has pretty much replaced their own "Avanti" polyurethane offering with their polyisoprene condom, borrowing the "Avanti" name, and calling this new product "Avanti BARE - Next-to-Nothing Feel".
You will see this material appearing everywhere within a year, I predict. But why wait? Try a three pack and you will definitely see the difference over the latex or polyurethane condoms out there. Hands down, I say this is the best condom material ever developed, and I further predict it will replace latex completely within five years!
